TDC: Energy Building
The TDC or Technical development centre is a facility dedicated to development of our Energy and Enviromental programme within the School Of Engineering. Keys aspects of the TDC include a software lab area for both software and hardware design implementation.
The TDC has seen significant investment in all areas including the EV lab area. The EV lab is dedicated to the development of modern Electric Vehicle technologies, this includes battery management technology (lithium cells) as well as fuel cell technology (hydrogen). The EV lab promotes students projects based around the development of light weight vehicle chassis / controls systems and instrumentation . Current student projects have focused around an Electric Motorcycle and Electric Motor Car.
Smart Building implementation, a recent aspect employed in the TDC which lends to the investigation of technology surrounding sensors for conditonal monitoring and automation. This is area which project development is key for ours students in this ever expanding area and the TDC provides a ideal environment for such projects to be realised.
Power Distribution and the appreciation for electric power in terms of power management and power analysis is an area fully supported by the equipment and the workspace available in the TDC. The TDC itself as a facilty is where students gain direct hands on experience relating to Power Distribution through our 'Main Support area' . This particular area boasts 6 rotating carousels which supports 24 students at any given time to which students experience a unique way of the practical aspect the TDC offers our students in their development towards their qualifications.
The TDC also includes a software lab area for both software and hardware design implementation aswell as dedicated Motors Lab were Students avail of the unique teaching tools surrounding the operation of Motors within this lab. A dedicated presentation area is available to students to avail of for presentation preparation or project group meetings. A fully equiped instrumentation lab also allows all disciplines with the School of Engeering including Electronic, Mechanical and Energy to avail of this unique enviroment.
In co-junction with the Department of Science and Computing the TDC hosts a dedicated Physics lab to support both Science and Engineering Disciplines.
